He was predeceased by: his parents, Erwin Marx and Ella Elsie Held (Neumann); his wife Jane Held; and his brother Tobe Held. He is survived by: his sons, Steven, Steve Held (Sue Breen-Held) of Des Moines, Jim Held (Brenda) of Lowell, Tim Held (Kathi Robinson) of Norwalk and Pat Held (Linda) of Fontanelle; his grandchildren, Marc Held (Jessica), Lucas Held (Kirstyn), Amy Harms, Eric Held (Angie Landers), Matthew Held (Taylor), Amanda Held (Andy Miller), Gena Ward (Philip), Ellen Linkenhoker (Joshua), Tyler Held, Megan Held (Joe Zayac) and Cara Held (Christian Albaugh); and his great grandchildren, Grace, Isaac, Payge, Katie, Spencer, Jacob, Travis, Hailey, Addison, Kaydence, Mitchell, Nicholas, Rheagun, Chase, Paiton, Alivia and Kenzie. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to Bridgewater Fire Department, Fontanelle Fire Department or to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle.
