He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle Chesnut and Cecil Gladys Chesnut (Keith); his siblings, Claire, Keith, John, Melvin and Larry; and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Chesnut and Joanne Chesnut.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Chesnut of Adair, IA; his children, Eddie Chesnut (Renae) of Johnston, IA, Evan Chesnut (Sharon) of Shell Rock, IA and Annette Brannen of Urbandale, IA; his grandchildren, Blane Chesnut, Taylor Chesnut, Cole Chesnut (Dallas), Collin Chesnut, Makayla Brannen and Alyssa Brannen; his brothers, Lyle, Dale (Marlene) and Ray; and his brothers-in-law, Clem Marsden (Kay) and Dick Marsden (Jeannie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
