He was predeceased by: his parents, Wendell Ulfers and Darlene Ulfers (Bergman); his stepfather Barney Barnholt; and his brothers, John and Richard Ulfers.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Ulfers of Ackley, Iowa; and his sisters, Bonnie Wiederkehr (Richard) and Anita Echelberry (Gerald). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
