He was predeceased by: his parents, Gensuke Kaya and Utako Kaya; and his siblings, Sumie Kaahanui, Toyoko Matsuoka, George Kaya, Itsuko Osakada and Takako Weinberg.
He is survived by: his wife Hagie Minamoto Kaya; his children, Maurice Kaya (Shelley), Meryl Iwasaki (Leighton) and Jocelyn Yamagata (Gary); and his grandchildren, Katherine, Jennifer, Kimberly, Dave, Brian and Alan. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
