He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert K. McCandless Sr. and Thelma M. Vierra; his son Thomas H. K. McCandless, Jr.; and his siblings, Francis G. McCandless, Robert K. McCandless Jr. and Gwen Richards.
He is survived by: his children, Francina Akalaonu, Brandy McCandless and Christopher H. K. McCandless; his sisters, Helen Ferry, Thelma Teixeira and Madeline Hiram; and his half-siblings, Clifford Figueroa and Marie Miller. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
