He is survived by: his wife Gwen Akamine of Hilo; his children, Darlene "Didi" Akamine, Ian Akamine, Chadd Akamine (Ronalyn Duldulao) and Cyrus Akamine (Keshia) of Hilo; and his siblings, Jimmy Akamine of Las Vegas, Sharon Hoo (Ron), Diane Yoneoka (Harris), Ruth Nakamura (Ronald), Ethel Toguchi (Leslie) of California, Lena Muramoto, Jean Punzal (Dennis) of Hilo and Maureen Michelsen of Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
