He was predeceased by: his parents, George Frank Bates and Bobbie Bailey Bates; his children, Lori Passmore and Michael L. Bates; and his brother Robert Bates.
He is survived by: his wife Linda L. Bates of Yatesville; and his son Todd Bates (Linda) of Thomaston. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
