She was predeceased by: her parents, Ira Lewis Rachels and Stella L Williams Rachels; her husband Frank Carter; her siblings, Dorothy Davenport, Franklin Rachels, James Rachels, Joanne Rachels and Ronnie Rachels; her grandson Derek Smith; and her great grandchild Averie Jewel Miles.
She is survived by: her children, Lewis "Chew" Smith (Cindy), Mary Combs, Lynn Unruh (Kenneth) and Don Smith. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and other close relatives.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the James Funeral Home (630 N Main St, Wrens, GA 30833). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Smith-Carter Family Cemetery (1176 Hephzibah-Keysville Rd, Hephzibah, GA 30815).
