He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Hightower; and his parents, James Franklin Hightower and Anna Ruth Hightower (Ellison). He is survived by: his children, Jerry Frank Hightower Jr. of Aubry, James Franklin Hightower of Statham, GA and Jennifer Joyner of Sylacauga, AL. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
