He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Grier and Sybil Smith Grier; his son Daniel Vernon; his grandson Steven Vernon, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Lisa Vernon; and his brother James Grier.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Leonard Grier; his son Steven Vernon; and his grandchildren, Stephanie Vernon and Jonathan Vernon.
