He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Isabell Pugh and James Henry "Jim" Richards; his wife Norma Lee Vance Richards; and his siblings, Larry Richards and Delores Fulcher.

He is survived by: his sons, Michael Richards of Winder and Brent Richards of Winder; his siblings, Stanley Richards (Connie) of Cumming, Wayne Richards of Dahlonega, Dennis Richards of Dahlonega, Nell Keith of Stone Mountain and Linda Reeder (Stanley) of Lithonia; his grandchild Morgan Richards (Hannah) of Winder; and his great grandchild Emma Richards.
