He was predeceased by: his parents, John Rufus Stokes and Laura Oeater Sowell Stokes; his brother William Stokes; and his siblings-in-law, Berta Lee Cowart (Douglas), Eloise Love (Lonnie), Billie Dale Dyer (Donald), Efrain Santos and Ted Dixon.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Carter Stokes; his daughter Danielle Stokes Hobbs (Chris); his grandsons, Carter, Reed and Burke Hobbs; his sister Delores Owens (Herbert); and his sisters-in-law, Cynthia Santos, Marilyn Dixon, Brenda Waters (Billy) and Cindy Stokes. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
