He is survived by: his son John Benton McGowan III (Seng McGowan); his grandchildren, John, Jubilee, Ezra and Moira; his daughter Megan Merett McGowan; and his sisters, Joan McGowan LaGrasse (John), Diana McGowan Morehead and Pauline McGowan Stadnik. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
