He was predeceased by: his parents, Eddie Roox Merritt and Estelle Henderson Merritt; his wife Iva Lou Merritt; and his cousin Merritt Harmon. He is survived by: his sons, Richard Merritt (Tammy) of Weston and John Merritt (Jan) of Cordele; his grandchildren, Rich Merritt of Austin, TX and Ashley Merritt of Weston; his stepgrandchildren, Tony Cheshire (Karen) and Jennifer Kelly (Brian) of Sparks, GA; his sisters-in-law, Dr. Barbara Carlton of Wauchula, FL and Frances Keightley of Columbus, GA; his nieces, Susan Wiseman (Kenneth) of Weston, GA, Anna Moore (Grady) of Andalusia, AL, Ann Williamson of Columbus, GA, Rooks and Kay Harmon of Weston, GA; his cousin Edward Hodges of Palatka, FL.; and also, Haley Morris, Katie Jester of Coffee Springs, AL and Lindsey Troupe of Valdosta, GA.
