He was predeceased by: his former wife Kathy Helms; his son Brantley Dallas Helms; his siblings, Joe Helms and Hazel H. Maddox; and his parents, Fletcher Brantley Helms, Sr. and Gladys Ellington Helms.
He is survived by: his wife Faye Carter Helms; his daughter Melanie H. Hunkapiller (Bill) of Tallahassee, FL; his grandsons, Brantley "Fletcher" Helms (Ashley) and William Martin Hunkapiller III; his great grandchild Forrest Helms; his stepdaughters, Marcy Cutrer (Jeff) and Jennifer Leonard (Tom); his stepgrandsons, Carter Cutrer and Frankie Leonard; and his nieces, Jolynn Maddox and Debbie Helms.
