He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Rosie Lee Lockhart Barber; his grandson William Jeremy Barber; his parents, George Barber, Sr. and Cora Barber; his children, Rosie Marion Rutledge (Willie), Cleve Barber, II (Doris) and Willie James Barber, Sr. (Nellie); his brother Charlie Barber (Synella); and his sister-in-law Lillian Barber. He was also cherished by his eight great-grandchildren.
