He was predeceased by: his parents, Delbert Lee Smith and Sarah Ellen Sheets Smith. He is survived by: his wife Sarah Smith of Waycross; his children, Christia Hartle (Patrick Schuman) of Savannah, Christopher Jentzen (Shelley) of Sacramento, CA, Sally Jentzen (Nicholas Griner) of Waycross and Sarah R. Smith (Willie Griner) of Waycross; his grandchildren, Destany Hartle, Patrick Schuman, Jr., Alexander Jentzen, Lilith Jentzen, Kyrie Jentzen, Logan Griner, Delilah Griner and Gordon Griner; and his brothers, Gary Smith and Ronnie Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
