He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Porter and Izzie Mae Bennett Porter; his wife Leatha M. Robertson Bennett-Carnegie; his siblings, Myrtle Lewis, Dorothy B. Walker, Elizabeth Dixon, Catherine Edmond, Vera Burke, Albert Bennett and Gary Bennett Sr.; and his daughters, Betty Jean Blackshear and Frankie Delois Bennett-Preston.
He is survived by: his children, James Bennett (Ophelia) of Waycross, Linda F. Swift of Waycross, Pastor Juliette B. Howard (Aaron) of Waycross, Leroy Bennett Jr. (Mary) of Waycross, Tammy S. Denton and Milliedean A. Gadson (Bruce Sr.); his siblings-in-law, Annie Lois Jones, Nathaniel Robertson (Maxine) of Waycross and Freddie Robertson Sr. of Waycross; his niece Mary Johnson of Charleston; and his godchildren, Tom Chatman and Patricia Ann Austile. He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
