He is survived by: his wife Sharon McVety Barrett; his children, Cynthia Riles (Billy) and Joseph Barrett Jr. (Andrea); his brother Robert "Rocky" Barrett (Jane); and his grandchildren, Brittany Powell (Jonathan), Ricky Barrett, Trevor Barrett (Alexis), Jamison Clark (Savannah), Shelby Fuller (Zack), William "Billy J" Ross and Anastasia Schielke (Dean). He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
