He is survived by: his wife Steina Bates (Petersen) of Warner Robins, GA; his children, Carol Jane Lavender (John) of Gordon, GA and Jeffrey Lee Bates (Britta) of Germany; his grandchildren, Stuart (Tammy), Yvette, Stephan (Emily), Jennifer and Matthias; and his sister Rosemary Sue Donner. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
