He was predeceased by: his daughter Gretchen Lee Thompson; his parents, William Bragg Thompson and Sarah Freeman Clifton Thompson; and his brothers, William Thompson and Hugh Clifton Thompson.
He is survived by: his wife Ann Thompson of Vidalia; his children, Dawn Thompson Hill (Richard) of Liberty Township, Paul Thompson (Debbie) of Vidalia and Olivia Thompson (Christopher Corbitt); his grandchildren, Mason Hill (Lisa Zoromski) of Liberty Township, Sydney Hill (Malik Williams), Caleb Thompson (Carolina) and Austin Thompson; and his sister-in-law Shirley Carroll Thompson of Vidalia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
