He was predeceased by: his former wife Joyce Clements Riner; his son Michael Lee Riner; his parents, Morris L. Riner and Ola Kersey Riner; his brother Luther Cullen Riner; and his son-in-law Joe D. Moody.
He is survived by: his wife Frankie S. Riner of Oak Park; his daughters, Kathy Riner Jackson of Vidalia and Rhonda Riner Moody of Macon; his brother Bill Riner of Arizona; and his grandchildren, Tracy Jackson of Alston, Julie McNeal of Vidalia, Emily Moncrief of Vidalia, Anna Mitchell of Vidalia, Joshua Moody of Macon and Lauren Moody of Morganton. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
