With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Virginia Godwin of Valdosta, Georgia, who passed away on January 13, 2025 at the age of 82. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid adieu to Virginia's earthly form, let us not dwell on the void left in her wake, but rather celebrate the legacy of love and inspiration Virginia has bequeathed us. For though she may have departed from our sight, her spirit remains a timeless beacon, guiding loved ones through the labyrinth of life's journey.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Leon Rutland and Lena Sumner Rutland; her husband James Owen "Jay" Godwin; and her sisters, Anne Rutland and Patsy R. Boone.
She is survived by: her daughter Abbie; her son-in-law Jeff Barfield of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Jenna Barfield of Valdosta and Luke Barfield of Valdosta; her brothers, Thomas C. "Hodie" (Linda Rutland) and Terrell H. "Curley" (Debbie Rutland); and her brother-in-law Royce Boone of Lenox, Georgia. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 14th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Boone Funeral Home South (1804 S Hutchinson Ave, Adel, GA 31620). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Lakeview Church Cemetery (2091 Lakeview Church Rd, Lenox, GA 31637).
