She was predeceased by: her parents, Pope Thurmond and Bertha Thurmond; her siblings, Billy, Jimmy Thurmond, Judy Thurmond and Geneva O'Neal; her nieces, Beth and Mandy Hewitt; her nephew Quentin Hewitt; and her great grandchildren, Jessica and Judah.
She is survived by: her sister Sonia Garner; her children, Robert Burke, Richard Burke, Benjamin Burke, April Burke and James Burke; and her granddaughter Katie Collier.
The family asks that donations be made in her name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the American Diabetes Association.
