He was predeceased by: his parents, George Edward and Orlean Moseley Helms; his wife Margie Ledford Helms; his children, Johnny Helms, Donnie Helms, Richard Louis Helms and Mary Elaine Helms Witt; and his siblings, Jeanette McGraw, Johnny Helms, James William "Buddy" Helms and George Helms.
He is survived by: his son Stephen Helms (Amy); and his sister Gumelda Cargle (Carlton). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
