He was predeceased by: his son Richard "Tweed" Powell; and his parents, Richard Powell and Jewell Powell. He is survived by: his wife Marie H. Powell; his son Eric; his daughter-in-law Heather Powell; his grandsons, Ethan and Mason Powell; and his sisters, Edna Elliott (Tom), Elsie Allen (David) and Chattanooga. He is also survived by two nieces and three nephews, and a host of friends.
