He was predeceased by: his parents, Newton Hayes and Rena Reese Hayes; and his wife Sallie Mae Sewell Hayes. He is survived by: his children, Charlene (Nathan Echols), Christine Brown of Toccoa, Anita (James Rivers), Trenace (Roy Ritchie) and Herman; his daughter-in-law Sheena Hayes of Toccoa; and his sisters, Juanita Hayes (Helen Gilbert), Hattie Mae Philpot of Decatur, Johnnie Mae Hayes (Maggie Mae Hayes) and Brenda Hayes of Dawson, Georgia.. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
