He was predeceased by: his parents, J. W. Matthews and Elsa Martin Matthews; and his brother Jerry Matthews. He is survived by: his sisters, Amanda Houston (Bruce) and Jennifer Napolitan; his sister-in-law Shirley Matthews; his sons, Mike (Karen) and Bart (Deborah); and his grandchildren, Ben, Caitlin Matthews and Ann. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rabun County (Georgia) Chapter of Trout Unlimited or to the Athens Y Camp in Tallulah Falls, Georgia.
