He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey H. Abney and Mildred Hutson Abney; his son Patrick Abney; and his brother James "Jim" Abney. He is survived by: his wife Jan Archer Abney; his sons, Michael Abney of Athens and Nicholas Abney of Tifton; his brother Tom; his sister-in-law Jeanie Abney of Evans, Georgia; and his sisters, Evelyn NeSmith of Aiken and Joyann (Ted Lindsey). He is also survived by great father to his sons and a devoted husband.
