He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Jackson Brooks and Ola Davis Brooks; his son John Marion Brooks, Jr.; and his siblings, Claude Brooks, Jerry Brooks, Julia Goode, Naomi Terry and Gina Sizemore.

He is survived by: his wife Lucy Brooks of Tifton; his sons, Michael Brooks of Valdosta and Kim; his daughter-in-law Eloise Rowe of Moultrie; and his daughters, Cheryle (Ray Lee) and Karen Brooks of Valdosta. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
