He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren C. Groff and Eleanor Rapp Groff; and his son Michael David Groff. He is survived by: his wife Susan Pierson of State College, PA; his daughters, Donna (John Nasielski) and Denise (Ryan Gravitt); his grandchildren, John, Peter (Jen Place), Mark Nasielski (Isabella Sanzi) of California, London, England, Christopher, Amanda Gravitt and Jessica Gravitt of Tifton, Georgia.; his siblings, Jeanette (John Steffick) of Pittsburgh, PA, Edward (Peggy Groff) and Charles (Susan Groff); his siblings-in-law, Elizabeth Pitney of Holmdel and Peter Kimball Pierson (Joan) of Sun City; and also, Grant Barber and Tate Gravitt of Tifton. He is also survived by seven nephews and four nieces.
