He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Eugene Horton and Dorothy Mae Haralson Horton; and his siblings, Richard Eugene Horton, Doris Marie Horton and Ellen Lorance Horton Brogdon.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Hester Horton of Tifton; his sons, Carl David Horton, Jr. of Tifton, James Robley Horton of Tifton and Thomas Eugene of Tifton; his daughter-in-law Shannon Horton of Tifton; and his grandchildren, Samantha Furlong, Kandice Horton, Josh Horton, Christopher Horton, Jacob Horton, Cassie Horton and Sallie Horton. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
