He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth Kathleen Dye; his parents, C. M. Bales, Sr. and Montine Chapman Land; his son Keith Bales; and his brothers, Wallace Land, Edward Bales and C. M. Bales, Jr..
He is survived by: his daughters, Anesia Ivie (Clay Holliman) of Dearing and Gina Miller (Allen) of McBean, Georgia; his siblings, Pete Bales (Elaine), Wayne Bales (Patsy), Hollis Land (Carol) and Patsy Laden (Ben); and his grandchildren, Brian Noggle, Joey Ivie, Holly Rabun (Kyle) and Rena Noggle (Donny). He is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
