She was predeceased by: her parents, Monroe Barr Mitchell, Sr. and Jessie Douglas Mitchell; her son Charles Douglas Smith; her grandson Preston Smith; and her sister Sara Burrows.

She is survived by: her children, Robin Dudley (Mike), Karen Smith (Denice), Kelly Human and Scott Smith (Nicole); and her grandchildren, Bennett Dudley (Mary Rae), Dawn Sanders (Brad), Krystal Human, Lacey Smith, Aubree Smith, Cameron Smith and Brooke Smith. She is also survived by five great grandchildren.
