She was predeceased by: her parents, Hoke Smith and Jewell Forehand Smith; and her husband Don Palmer, Sr.. She is survived by: her children, Donald Palmer, Jr. (Ponda) and Donna Gilliam (Russell); her sister Martha Mathis (Wayne); her grandchildren, Donald "Franklin" Palmer, III, Turner Gilliam and Alex Gilliam; and her aunt Midge Williams. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
