He was predeceased by: his parent Oscar Nelson; his great grandchild Katie Lanell Courtney; his stepparents, Clydene Bennett and Sam Morris; and his brother-in-law Butch Anduha.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Denise Rutherford Bennett; his children, Mary Jane Gillis (Matt) of Kingwood, TX, Jessica Barnett (Lamar) of Niceville, FL and Neil Bennett of Thomasville, GA; his grandchildren, Vada Voyles (Brennan) of Marietta, GA, Brynna Gillis, Téa Gillis (Chris Dadua), Moira Gillis, Kyan Gillis, Ambria Gillis, Aslan Gillis, Anakin Gillis, Rayna McCook, Grayson Harris and Charlie Barnett; his great grandchild Alfie Dadua; and his siblings, Debbie Bennett, Brenda Trice (David), Susie Holmes (Bill), John Bennett (Cristina), Steve Brady (Becky) and Matt Bennett (Leslie). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and special friends.
