He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Mattie English; his father James Sherrod; his children, Tim and Alaina Tomlinson (Clark); his sister Stella (Jerry); his grandchildren, Brittany Sherrod, Krysten Sherrod (Eddie), Taylor Sherrod, Ryan Sherrod, Nicholas Sherrod and Ethan Tomlinson; his nieces, Lisa, Susan and Jenifer; his nephew Thomas; his mother Annie Sherrod; his brother Neil (Betty); his brothers-in-law, Tom, Casey, Harry, Dennis and Clinton English; and his great-grandparents, James Sherrod and Rev. A. C. Stephenson.

While in New Orleans he met and married Mattie English in 1957, the same year she graduated from Charity Hospital Nursing School.
