He was predeceased by: his parents, James Atkinson and Willie Mae Atkinson; and his brother Charles Edward Atkinson. He is survived by: his wife Jewel Atkinson (Fulton); his children, J. J. Atkinson (Reba) of Flowery Branch, GA, James Atkinson (Melissa) of Thomasville, GA and Jackie Atkinson of Tallahassee, FL; his stepdaughter Carol Cantrell (Michael) of Helen, GA; his siblings, Ricky James Atkinson of Lady Lakes, FL, Shirley Hall of Davenport, FL and Judy Atkinson of Havana, FL; his grandchildren, Amber Atkinson, Caitlyn Atkinson, Hailey Atkinson, Jared Atkinson, Victoria Atkinson, Brittney Rayes and Brittney Atkinson; his great grandchildren, Jasmine Rayes and Damien Rayes; and his nieces, Carlei Atkinson and Sally Atkinson.
