He was predeceased by: his parents, Herschel Lee Elder, Sr. and Laura Mae Elder of Hampton, VA.; his sister Peggy Shackleford (Faye Turner); and his granddaughter Kristina Elder. He is survived by: his wife Arlene Elder; and his sons, Doc, Herschel III, Alan Elder (Diane), David "Wink" Elder (Jerrie) and Mark Anthony "Tony" Elder (Debbie). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild.
