He is survived by: his son Joseph Houston; his close friend Linda Churchill; his grandchildren, Aden Houston, Madison, Mackinley, Christopher, Blake, David, Alex, Ansley, Maddie and Sammi; his stepchildren, Dawn Bowden, Donna Downing and Robert Poss; and his siblings, Betty Duke, Janice Adams, Patricia Atkins, Martha Coleman, Peggy McCall, Pam Dunn, Sarah McElroy, Linda Carter and Johnny Houston. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
