She was predeceased by: her parents, James Howard Whittle and Azilee Russell Whittle. She is survived by: her husband Thomas Knox Kendrick Blackmar of Talbotton, GA; her children, John Wright of Talbotton, GA and Azilee Davis of Crestview, FL; her siblings, Sondra Gazaway of Columbus, GA, Charles Whittle (Janet) of Midland, GA and Gloria Hatfield (Jim) of Midland; and her close friend Lavon Collins of Waverly Hall, GA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

During the challenging times of the Covid pandemic, Melda tirelessly sewed hundreds of masks, collaborating with the CDC to ensure their safety for healthcare workers.

These masks were generously donated to numerous healthcare facilities.
