He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Daniel and Grace Taylor Smith; his wife Janet Begoon Smith; and his son Stanley Martin Smith. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Doerun Methodist Church.
