He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton Rudolf Baker and Mary Francis Peele Baker; his son James "Jay" Gaston Baker, Jr.; and his sisters, Katherine Rebecca Baker Peele and Margaret Baker Colson.

He is survived by: his brother Ken Willis; his wife Ella Kay Smith Baker of Worth County, Georgia; his daughters, Gloria Baker Haggerty, Kim Baker and Vanessa Baker Waid; his children-in-law, Carla Baker Burran, William Haggerty and David Waid; his granddaughters, Jackie Stripling Slappey, Jessica Stripling Sweeney, Jaymie Stripling Martz and Gillian Baker DellaPiana; and his grandsons-in-law, Zach Slappey, Kyle Sweeney and Joseph DellaPiana. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Tift Area: 618 Central Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
