She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Gordy and Gladys Lawson Gordy; her son Shanon Averett; and her siblings, Charles Gordy, Geraldine Rich and Gloria Davis.
She is survived by: her husband Edward Averett of Swainsboro; her children, Bryan Akridge (Pam) of Norristown, Phillip Akridge (Walkiria) of Summertown, Wes Averett (Jennifer) of Summertown, Jeremy Averett of Swainsboro, Shane Averett (Katherine) of Swainsboro, Wendy Young (Chris) of Swainsboro and Jessica Bird of Norristown; and her sister Cherry Wilkerson (Don). She is also survived by Twin City; 19 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
