He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Robert Averett, Howell and Hilda Davis; and his stepbrother Billy Smoak. He is survived by: his parents, Debra Lynn Davis Smoak (Gaines) of Newington and Edward Averett (Terrie) of Swainsboro; his children, Champ Averett of Swainsboro and Angel Stevens (Jonathan) of Swainsboro; his grandson Slate Stevens of Swainsboro; his close friend Mollie Scott of Swainsboro; his grandmother Edna Averett; his brothers, Shane Averett (Katherine) of Swainsboro, Jeremy Averett (Whitney) of Swainsboro and Wes Averett (Jennifer) of Summertown; his stepsiblings, Phillip Akridge (Walkiria) of Summertown, Bryan Akridge of Norristown, Curt Smoak (Amanda) of Hiltonia, Jessica Byrd of Norristown, Donna Oliver (Thomas) of Hiltonia and Wendy Young (Chris) of Swainsboro; and his aunts, Ann Johnson and Joan Morgan. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
