He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Doherty Sr. and Effie Doherty; and his sister Effie Scott (Lilian). He is survived by: his significant other Brenda Doherty; his daughters, Heather Wensley Saragusa and Robyn Doherty; his grandchildren, Devon Doherty, Haley Jo Saragusa and Wensley Saragusa; his sister Judy Tabora; his niece Vicki Tabora; and his nephews, Rob Tabora and Francis Scott. He is also survived by extended family and dear friends.

He will be long remembered for his leadership and contributions to the sport.
