She was my literature teacher in fifth grade and I can’t imagine how my understanding of literature would be without the help of Ms. Chin. Ms. Chin had a special connection with each student, only she and my family called me Gracie. I’m so sad to think about going back to school without Ms. Chin being there. :(”

“Hugh, Thomas, Peter and I were so very sad to learn that Ms. Chin had died. With generosity, creativity and what must have been one of the most profound passions for music on the Upper West Side, Ms. Chin was able to harness the extraordinary in her students and made them literally, sing. It was magical to watch her leading the chorus always with strength, dignity and grace. We are immeasurably grateful for what she gave to the boys, and will never forget her. Rest in music, Ms. Chin.”

After I left, she still made time when I came to visit. When she found out I was Christian, she said “we should do something outside of work!” I’ll always regret that we didn’t. “Miae, or as she as known at Center School, Ms. Chin was my colleague for more than 20 years. Her classroom was always the cleanest room in the school, and mine was by far the messiest. I will miss seeing her wipe down every surface with Clorox wipes to make sure that all surfaces were spotless. She disinfected before it was fashionable. For upwards of 20 years I have watched her take a bunch of cracking voiced adolescents and turn them into a collection of songstresses. I will miss her.”
