He was predeceased by: his parents, William Elston and Dorothy Dail Elston Geotzinger. He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Carter Elston; his children, Sherri Fort (Dan) and Ken Elston; his grandsons, Justin Fort (Megan), Christopher Fort (Maria), Benjamin Fort (Amber) and Andrew Fort; his great grandchildren, Sawyer, Oliver, Braxton, Jennings Fort and Mikaela Fort; and his siblings, Bobby Elston (Bertha), Billy Elston (Jean) and Annette Schmits (Bill). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
