He was predeceased by: his parents, Christine Townsend and James Townsend; his nephew Phillip Graham; his stepmother-in-law Myra Brim; and his nephew Morgan McDuffie.
He is survived by: his wife Jammie Townsend; his sons, Michael Townsend Jr. and Matthew Townsend; his siblings, Michelle Townsend, Laurie Forrest and James Townsend; and his nieces and nephews, Joshua Forrest, John Townsend, Sean Graham, Vincent Anderson, Chris Anderson, Joseph Payne, Ashton Forrest and Abigail Warren.
