She was predeceased by: her parents, Ottis Roscoe and Catherine Wages Grizzle; her husband Clyde A. Thornton; her daughter Kay Melvin; her siblings, Lewis Grizzle, Quilla Grizzle and Louise Morgan; and her grandchild Brooks Thornton.

She is survived by: her sons, Bob Thornton of Chamblee, Phil Thornton (Jennifer) of Benton, TN and Alton Thornton (Freida) of Athens; her sister Betty Perkins of Hull; and her grandchildren, Blake Thornton, Mark Melvin, Michael Melvin, Quincy Damron and Asa Thornton.
